A music essentially based on repetition, the use of electric guitars that are out of tune or alternatively tuned and coupled with an eternal delay / loop, allows combinations and the interweaving of infinite sources; the specificity of the trilogy of the « Pièces pour guitare préparée » being that it incorporates the hazardous factor that is linked to improvisation.
In thirs first volume, Moonman develops a live-sampling technique dedicated to improvisation. The result is a collection of eight pieces between the crystal-clear abstraction of Fennesz (“Bulles sur l’horizon difforme”), works of superposition akin to that of Steve Reich (“When the bunches of grapes are ripe, they are gathered”) and strident or obscure dissonance which are sometimes reminiscent of the solo releases of Thurston Moore.
This complex system sometimes unveils a reflexion on the fragmentation of memory (« This may lead to inaccurate statements »). At other times, the rhythms speed up and become hypnotic and mysterious.
